An exhibition exploring the cult of photography
- Text by Shelley Jones
There are those who like, even love, to take photographs and there are those who live through their photography. A new show, Religious Observance, curated by counterculture archive Boo Hooray, celebrates the latter – a perceptive clan of click-o-philes whose cameras operate as a third eye.
Featuring forever greats like Tobin Yelland and C.R. Stecyk III alongside upcoming shutter-eyes like Andrea Sonnenberg and Jerry Hsu, Religious Observance celebrates the photographers whose obsession with their art borders on the devotional, and showcases examples from their work where life, death and the surreal bits in between are explored in make-you-look-twice clarity.
Religious Observance runs at 413 Arts, LA, March 19 – April 19, 2015.
